James B. Murphy, Jr. practiced law in Tampa for over 35 years. After completing a judicial clerkship with United

States District Judge Wm. Terrell Hodges, Jim worked as an associate and later as a shareholder with Shackleford,

Farrior, Stallings & Evans, P.A. From 2000-2014, Jim worked as a partner in the Tampa office of Shook,

Hardy & Bacon, LLP, a national law firm.

 

Jim’s primary areas of practice were in business litigation, products liability, and other complex litigation. Jim is

a past Chair of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar and a past Chair of the Business Litigation Committee

of the Section. He was selected to Best Lawyers in America in the areas of both Commercial Litigation and “Bet the

Company” Litigation as well as to “Super Lawyers,” “Leading Florida Attorneys,” and “Florida Legal Elite.” He

received an AV- Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

 

Jim retired from the active practice of law on December 31, 2014. He now serves as a Florida Supreme Court
certified Circuit Court mediator. Jim is available to mediate cases in state circuit courts or federal courts
throughout the state of Florida. He does not charge for travel time for mediations in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, or Sarasota counties.
